What excuses have you heard from students when they put off work?
Social studies teacher Jeff Cullins has heard many excuses for putting off work.
“My horse ate my homework.”
“I will do it tomorrow.”
“I have so much English homework due, can I do your stuff later?”
“I did not study for geometry, I am COOKED.”
Kit Harris has heard many things also to get out of an assignment.
“I don’t understand it”
“My iPad was dead”
“I forgot how to do it”
“There are students that from time to time put off work if they are stressed about a test or have a lot going on,” Spanish teacher Bernice Weisel said. “Or simply forgot to turn something in, but for the most part I’ve been very impressed with how responsible Spanish 1 students have been.”
What are some excuses that students have given you when they miss class?
Students usually have appointments so they get a doctor’s note to get out of class, or their parents call them out.
“When they miss the whole day their parents usually call them out and say they are sick,” secretary Melissa Alford said.
“I got lost on the way to school this morning”. “It was too cold”. “It smells funny at the school.” “There is too much drama.” are all the excuses Cullins has heard in his time at BHS.
“They usually say they had an appointment or were in the bay.” Alford said.
“I don’t think I’ve had any issues with students skipping class, luckily.” said Weasel.
Harris hears a lot of excuses for missing school or class. Many of them are people just wanting to do anything other than school.
“Mom called me out.”
“Hair appointment. (or nails)”
“Cows got out.”
“It’s first day of turkey (or deer) season.”
“I thought it was Saturday but then found out it was only Friday.”
