Winter royalty has been a tradition at Baldwin High School for years. This year’s candidates are Garrett McLaughlin and Lily Breedlove, Jaeden Landreth and Raelyn Wilkerson, Nick Johnson, and Malin Harris. The seniors and the teachers choose the candidates.
“Winter Royalty makes me feel nostalgic,” said vice principal Kelli Haeffner. “Back when I was in high school we had senior candidates for King & Queen and junior candidates for Princess and Prince. My older sister was nominated for queen and I was nominated for princess and my dad walked us both out which was really special! I also always love getting to recognize students who are nominated by their teachers and peers.”
This year the Winter Royalty Ceremony is on Friday, December 13th, and Winter Formal is on December 14th.
Another big part is Spirit Week. Spirit week is Meme Monday, Tuesday is PJ Day, Wednesday is Anything but a Water Bottle Day, Thursday is Teacher and Student Swap Day, and Friday is Ugly Christmas Sweater Day.
“My favorite part is the spirit week,” said Breedlove. “I love dressing up, especially for Christmas.
Every year the candidates all play games in front of the whole school and they all compete for prizes, the pep rallies are a huge part of BHS.
“I feel honored that my peers and teachers picked me as a candidate,” Harris said. “I am excited to go all out for the spirit week and the pep rally will be a fun experience.”
The high school and junior high will have a combined pep rally, and there will be a pep rally at the primary and intermediate centers.
“I am excited to dance info of the junior high and high school with Garrett.,” said Breedlove. “Our dance will more than likely shock the audience if everything goes well. I am also nervous for the dance because there will be over 700 people watching, and many things could go wrong.
“This is going to be our first-ever combined pep rally and I am very excited.” senior Claire Baker said. “We have been prepping all of this week and even ran through at our Stuco meeting what the pep rally is going to look like. We have done a pep rally at the PC and IC and we had to plan two games for each and make sure that we involve the kids a lot. It is very fun and I am glad that they get to experience what it is like to be in High School.”
