More people need to join the trap team. Most of Baldwin High School’s trap team isn’t even people from Baldwin. There are homeschoolers and others from places like Lawrence. If more people from Baldwin were to be on the trap team, we could host more events and shoots for the team.
If more people joined we could host our own shoots, so that the shooters can get more practice and prep for the state shoot. It would also help the team be more known. That means when we have fundraisers more people can know what the money is going towards.
Trap is a good sport to get involved in. Not only does it help you get used to shooting, but it also helps with hunting skills.
Trap will get you closer to people who have a common interest. The team doesn’t judge if you are bad. If anything they will help you and advise you on how to get better.
The coaches are very helpful and are excellent at coaching. They observe, act and congratulate. They are quick to help and are very patient with new shooters. On the first practice of the season, they take the new kids and give them a rundown of the basics. They then practice shooting and getting better.
If more people joined the trap the team would positively benefit the shooters and their skills. The team mainly practices on Mondays, but if you are not able to make it talk to the coaches. They are willing to come out for you to shoot. If you are interested in being on the trap team reach out to Ben Smolen or Jorden Olson.
