Dance, sport or art?

Dance being a sport or an art has always been controversial. Many laugh at the fact that others think that dance is a sport. Many mock the sport by showing their “dance moves”.

According to dancer Jenna Garecht, dance is a sport. Dance is just the same as any other sport. You have to be strong, work hard, show talent, have endurance, and so much more. The sport is mentally and physically exhausting.

Garecht also believes dance is an artistic form. Dance can represent a story. You can show a story through your body motions and also your emotions. You show your emotions through facial expressions.

In my personal experience, I have been dancing since age two. I have told my whole life how dance is not a sport. I have had classmates make fun of dance being a “sport”. I have spent hours on hours in the studio a week. Dance has been the most tiring and difficult activity I have ever been a part of.

Dance is both a sport and an art because you work just as hard as any other sports and also what you are presenting is an art.
