New Football Coach

Iola High School’s Doug Kerr has been hired as Head coach for Baldwin Football to replace longtime coach Mike Berg.

“There are several reasons that we are excited to come to Baldwin. One is the close proximity to Lawrence and Kansas City,” Kerr said.

Kerr has been coaching for 20 years and as a head coach for 11 of those. Before he moved to Kansas he was a coach of Florida for 14 years.

“I have always believed that I am a team builder.” Kerr said “I work hard to create great a football experience for the whole program. We are not coming in to change the entire program. Coach Berg has done a fantastic job making Baldwin Football a great program year after year. We are hoping to come in and re-energize the program back up to that level.”

Kerr will take over as Physical Education teacher, in addition to being the new football coach.

“I am excited for the chance to coach, teach, and have my children attend a school district of Baldwin’s stature and it was just too good to pass up.” said Kerr

Kerr has had a chance to meet some of the players.

“I’m excited to see what kind of changes we will go through as a team under the new coach,” Junior Ethan Temple said. “I think we have a good shot to do well in the post-season next year with a summer of hard work.”
