New teacher to the Business Department
There were some changes to the faculty at the start of this school year, including Jim Ashcraft, the physics teacher, and Becky Weaver, the art teacher, replacing the open spots in the Baldwin staff.
After the end of the first semester, former business teacher Penny Hughes left the district and left a spot open for a teacher in the business department. This spot was filled by Emporia State University graduate Bronte’ Bailey and her student teacher, Eudora High School graduate Travisray Slayers, who was a yell leader of his high school FBLA. Also, he was the president of the collegiate version of FBLA, known as PBL, as well as being the president of the Business Teacher Honor Society.
“This is my first teaching job, I just graduated from Emporia State University in December of 2016. I previously did my student teaching at Emporia High School,” Bailey said.
While at Lebo High School, she was an FBLA member and volleyball player. In addition, Bailey was also a member of a select business education teacher organization known as Pi Omega Pi and worked for years at a bank in Emporia.
“I actually started off wanting to be a History teacher. I quickly changed after beginning employment at a bank in Emporia and switched my major to business. After taking several business classes,” Bailey said “I still had the gut feeling to be in the classroom so I switched back to a teaching degree and became a Business Education major.”
With the help of Baldwin staff and student teacher Slayers, she will begin her teaching career here at Baldwin High School.
“I have enjoyed Baldwin very much so far, the staff here is fantastic and always quick to help. The students here are also wonderful. I enjoy teaching them about the exciting and ever changing world of business,” Bailey said.
