It’s raining more dogs than cats at BHS
According to humanesociety.org, pet ownership in the U.S. has tripled from the 1970s, when approximately 67 million households had pets. In other words, in 2012, there were 164 million pet owners.At BHS, out of 176 students and staff, 141 picked dog as their favorite animal and 35 picked cats as their prefered pet. That makes dogs the winner, being 80% of the crowd’s favorite, and cats at 20%.
The personality of the voter usually depends if they are a cat or dog person. Generally, canine people tend to be social and outgoing, while cat people prefer to be alone and self-contained. Cats are known as being independent, but dogs need love to be happy, often like their owners.
According to the American Pet Products Association, 62% of U.S. households have a pet. Dogs win in the popularity race, with 39% of U.S. households owning at least one dog, compared with 33% of U.S. households owning at least one cat.
Sophomore Ashlynn Johnson gives her side on why she likes cats better.
“Cats are better because they are calm and make nice cat noises,” she said.
However freshman Ciara Luedecke thinks otherwise.
“I’m a dog person because I feel like they are more comforting,” she said.
Nick Rice, senior sides with Ciara’s dog loving attitude.
“They actually show that they like you,” he said.
