Four BHS seniors have decided to cheer at Baker University. Malin Harris, Ebi Gerrard, Niella New, and Mikayla Michael are all moving on to their next step in cheerleading.
Each of them want to go to Baker for many reasons, but one main reason is that it’s close to home.
“I chose Baker because I have grown up in Baldwin my whole life. Baker has just always felt like home,” Harris said. “I have just always had a connection to BU.”
“I was thinking about two schools but at the end of the day I wanted to stay close to home, and I really love Baker,” Gerrard said.
Harris, New, and Michael have been cheering since seventh grade, and Gerrard has been cheering since her sophomore year.
“Ever since my freshman year, I have wanted to cheer in college,” New said. “I chose to go to Baker because I have grown up being around Baker campus and I love the atmosphere.”
“I did not always want to cheer in college, but once I decided not to cheer my senior year, I ended up missing it more than I thought I would,” Michael said. “I went to a few open gyms, and then I really knew I wanted to be a part of the Baker Cheer team.”
The cheerleaders are all excited about the new people they will meet, the new opportunities, and the new memories they will make throughout the cheer season and college.
