On your mark, get set, go! The track season is off to a start with a new head coach and some amazing athletes.
“I am very excited for this season,” head coach Thomas Broxterman said. “We have a lot of really good and hard working kids. Baldwin has a rich tradition in track and field and I want to help continue to build on the tradition that has been established and help our kids reach their goals,”
Coach Broxterman is a new teacher here at BHS with a love of cross country and track.
“I have always had a love for track and field. It started with my dad being a high jumper in college,” Broxterman said. “After being an assistant I knew I wanted to use my knowledge to lead a team. I love trying to find kids’ best events because it almost feels like a puzzle and takes some experimenting. I enjoy the organization of things and sharing my love with my fellow coaches and the athletes.”
Broxterman isn’t alone though, there are three other coaches to help. Coach Angela Speilman is back to help on her 30th year coaching track.
“This is my 30th year coaching track. I did 20 years at the JH before moving to the HS level,” Speilman said. “Early in my coaching career I helped start the Baldwin Track Club for Elementary kids,”
Students are also very excited that the track season is off to a start.
“I’m excited the track season has started so I can see how much I can improve from last year and to get new PRs,” freshman Addie Wright said.
There is so much more to track than just running. Our throwers are also very talented.
“I’ve done track for 3 years.” sophomore Maddi Cooper said, “I do javelin and shotput. I’m excited for the new season because I have a new coach with new wisdom that he tells us.”cheise
