The girls wrestling team had the first practice Nov. 18 and the annual Purple and White wrestling dual on Dec. 4, along with their first dual tournament at Burlington on Dec. 5. The team placed 2nd at the dual tournament against Wellsville, Eudora, and Burlington, and next they have a tournament at Santa Fe Trail on Dec. 14.
“This year is my first year wrestling and I was definitely scared for the first practice but once I got in there with all the girls it was a blast,” freshman Ava Regalado said. “It is a super fun, but challenging sport. I am getting better everyday and having the best time.”
This is the girl’s second year with their new head coach, Levi Green, along with assistant coaches, Jesse Austin, Marcus Jauregui, Zayne Nowak, Zach Flowers and Jon Pratt. Together they are working hard to make the team better together.
Wrestling is a difficult sport that takes lots of determination and dedication, but can really boost your confidence. Wrestling helps girls grow as a person, but also grows your muscles and hard work, many girls said from the team.
“I like wrestling because of the sense of unity between teammates,” freshman Elli Lisher said. “Even though it’s an individual sport, you’re a team, and I think that’s really cool.”
The girls team has definitely grown together as a team, by supporting each other and working hard to show dedication and everyone doing their part for the team. The team has been taking time to do fun team bonding activities and doing more to work together. The biggest focus for the team is hard work and being a good teammate and person for the team and spreading love to each other.
