Many kids play out of school sports but one sport is AAU basketball. It is a sport full of competitive teams and players. Sophomore Colton Collum plays AAU basketball. He plays AAU basketball to make himself better because when it comes to basketball you want to be the best you can.
“AAU is a lot more self centered than school ball, it is more directed to improving as an individual player than improving as a team,” Collum said.
His team has had some success in the past. They only play tournaments which are normally very competitive.
“We normally finish in the top three in all of our tournaments, we have a pretty solid group ,“ Collum said.
The goal is not just to win while playing AAU it is more about improving your individual skills, but it is also about winning tournaments
Collum plays on the same AAU team as another sophomore at BHS, Leo Shoenberger. Playing on the same team helps their team chemistry during their school basketball season.
“This is my second year playing for this AAU team , we’ve had many fun experiences with each other such as hotels, winning tournaments, and team dinners,” Collum said.
