Cross country teams statebound once again
The cross country’s boys and girls teams are both going to state this year. This is the first time in 5 years that the entire boys team is going to state.
Junior Talan Torrez is going to state as a runner for the first time.
“I think it’s going to be a really great time, The traditions we do the day before state make it fun, and running at state is a different race,” Torrez said. “Not only challenging but rewarding if you do well.”
The boys team earned 1st place at regionals and will be going to state. The top finisher for the boys was senior Caleb Carr, followed by sophomore AJ Messick.
“I think we can get third at state if everyone on our team does their part, ” Torrez said. “Their part is running a good time and beating Augusta.”
The girls team has been working hard to make it to state and they have made it the last couple of years and have been placing well every year.
“I’m incredibly proud of all of us, we’ve worked so hard all season,” junior Lily Brecheisen said. “We knew it wouldn’t be easy and it definitely wasn’t but all of the work payed off.”
The girls team placed 2nd at regionals and look like they will place well at state. The top finisher for the girls was freshman Irelyn Kennedy, followed by Brecheisen.
“I would love to say we could be racing for first, but Eudora is looking really strong this season, especially after winning regionals with 19 points,” Brecheisen said. “Our big competition will be Winfield for second place trophy, but as long as we take care of business, I truly believe we can secure it. I’m excited to see how things play out,”
