KC, BHS fired up by Royals
The Royals have fired up both KC and BHS. They are on a six-game winning streak, four of which have been in extra innings. This has been there first appearance in the postseason since 1985 when they won the World Series. Out of 71 people polled on the Bulldog Bulletin Online, 36 (48%) said that the Royals will be World Series champs. Fourteen people (19%) said that they will make it to the World Series but they will not win the series. The other 33% had varied answers to how the Royals will do in the postseason. History teacher Eric Toot has been a big fan of the Royals since he was a kid.
“I think they have a good chance to win the World Series” Toot said. “This is the best baseball I’ve seen them play in 20 years. They seem to be clicking and taking advantage of the good fortune and breaks.”
Toot also talked about the differences between the 1985 team and the 2014 team and that this postseason has been very exciting for him and KC.
“I think this team’s bullpen is a big difference. Bullpens are used a lot more in today’s game and the royals have three guys at the back of their bullpen that are lights out. The ‘85 team had a superstar, George Brett, this team does not but they are deeper,” Toot said. “The last couple of weeks are more than I could’ve imagined. Being at the ballpark for the wildcard and ALDS clinching game were two of the most memorable moments of my life. As a lifelong, diehard fan, it was unreal. I’ve watched a lot of bad baseball over the last 29 years. This is a baseball city but the Royals have been so bad the passion was lost. You can see the passion returning with this team. The atmosphere in the stadium for these games has been remarkable.”
Toot is not the only one who is excited about the Royals. Sophomore Adam Carlson and his family are also very excited about the Royals rise.
“I think the Royals will win tonight because the Orioles are down 3-0 and are probably demoralized,” Carlson said. “It it very exciting because the Royals went from one of the worst teams in baseball to possibly competing for a World Series within five years. I don’t know if the Royals would win the World Series because I haven’t watched either the Giants or Cardinals and don’t know how the match ups are. I have been following the Royals most of my life because my uncle and dad are die hard Royals fans.”
