After two first place plaques and a perfect score at Anderson County, many may have been wondering how the Baldwin High School cross country teams would stack up against competitors at the Wamego meet on Sept. 14. Proudly holding the BHS standard on their shoulders, the boys varsity brought home first place, while the girls grabbed third.
“I was very excited about them, it showed that we can be one of the top teams in the state,” head coach Mike Spielman said.
Varsity boys runner Dakota Helm had similar feelings about the meet.
“I was extremely proud of our team,” he said.
Coming into the meet, the athletes felt very good about the results before the races had even started.
“I thought that we were going to do pretty good,” varsity girls runner Addie Dick said.
Spielman had similar thoughts.
“I thought we would be very competitive,” he said.
The excitement does not stop their. A member of the team shared his opinion.
“As far as the rest of the season, I have big expectations for us, but I can’t say what they are. I don’t want to jinx us,” Helm said.
