The Future Farmers of America (FFA) at BHS is an organization that provides students with exciting opportunities to grow, learn, and develop leadership skills. One of the most thrilling events for FFA members is the National FFA Convention, which takes place annually in Indianapolis.
“This event allows students to expand their knowledge, connect with fellow FFA members from across the United States, and gain a deeper understanding of FFA on a national level,” FFA sponsor Macy Hoskinson said.
The convention is not only an incredible learning experience but also a celebration of leadership and agricultural education. FFA is an excellent learning experience because it teaches students valuable skills beyond agriculture.
“FFA empowers chapter officers and members to plan events, generate new ideas, and take initiative in shaping their experiences.”Hoskinson said
By participating in Career and Leadership Development Events (CDEs and LDEs), students strengthen their abilities in critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork. Although FFA is closely tied to agriculture, it is much more than just farming.
“It is not just about cows, sows, and plows,” Hoskinson said. “The organization offers a variety of educational, leadership, and career development opportunities, making it a place where students of all backgrounds can thrive.”
Whether someone is interested in animal science, agricultural mechanics, business, or environmental conservation, FFA provides resources and experiences that cater to different interests. One of the most rewarding aspects of agriculture—and FFA—is the ability to educate others about its importance.
“My favorite aspect of agriculture is the opportunity to educate the younger generation about its importance,” Hoskinson said.
Many people do not realize where their food comes from, and FFA members play a crucial role in bridging that knowledge gap. By sharing their experiences and expertise, they help ensure that future generations appreciate and understand the significance of agriculture in their daily lives. Through education, leadership, and innovation, FFA continues to shape the future of both students and the agricultural industry.
