Teenagers worldwide struggle with their self-image all the time. According to Science Direct.com, people from the age of 12 to 18 struggle the most about being satisfied with their appearance. Most of them being women and some being men. Some people get it from seeing another person on social media and comparing themselves to them. At the same time, others get it from a peer commenting on how you look.
A simple word can change the way someone looks at themselves. It doesn’t matter if it’s a joke, hearing something over and over again about how you look is mentally draining and some people let it tear them apart. According to CDC.goc, over 49,000 thousand people commit suicide each year 20% of that being because of how much someone hates their appearance.
People often take it as far as using it to bully someone. According to Anti-Bullying Alliance 54 percent of bullying is just body shaming, leading to the person who is getting bullied thinking their self-image is bad. Most people don’t realize that your self-esteem has a lot to do with it, and that is why people should focus on the good about themselves.
It has to stop. Commenting about other people’s appearance does more damage than you think. Saying something positive takes two seconds and can make someone’s day. You should never feel insecure about your appearance because of a picture someone took of you, or a video you saw of someone else. Everyone has something to love about themselves, you just have to find it.
