Seminar at Baldwin High School is the last 20 minutes of the school day where students are given time to catch up on work. While this can be helpful at times, the majority of students don’t have work they need to do. When students have nothing to do, are rarely allowed to leave their assigned seminar class, and aren’t able be on their phones, it can lead to boredom and skipping class.
If lunch were to be extended in place of seminar, students could visit the classes they need to or catch up on homework during their lunch time. If students did not have work to do, they would be given more time with their friends. If an assembly needed to be held, that could also take place during lunch.
Seminar, for a lot of students, is just a time to watch the clock tick waiting for school to get out. If students did have work they needed to do, it would be the same to do it at home or during lunch.
Seminar is a waste of time, and if it was removed students could spend their time doing things they enjoy.
