BHS sophomore Petra Morris qualified for choir districts on December 2, 2024 at Topeka Seaman.
Q: Who do you look up to in choir?
“I’ve always been involved in different choirs in my community, but Mrs. Naughtin has been my choir director since 7th grade, and she is someone I’ve always looked up to. She is such a kind and loving person and I couldn’t ask for a better teacher.”
Q: What got you into singing?
“Both my parents and grandparents are very musically gifted. So, I’ve grown up singing lots of choral music, it’s just a part of who I am!”
Q: Because of choir, what opportunities do you feel like you have?
“I think being in choir is an opportunity that not many people get in the first place. But, being involved in choir makes me feel like I have a huge family of people who love me, and that’s a huge deal!”
Q: How many years have you been in choir, and do you think you’ll continue it?
“I’ve been in choir at Baldwin school since 4th grade with Mrs. Jacobson, but I have also been involved in choirs downtown at the dance academy and at my church. Choir has become a part of who I am and I do plan to continue singing in my future.”
Q: How do you feel about making district?
“When I was in 7th and 8th grade, I was nominated to sing at the middle school district level, and I’ve always looked forward to singing in the high school district choir. I’m very excited to be a part of district this December and can’t wait to prepare!”
Q: What were some challenges about preparing for auditions?
“Confidence was a very big struggle for me. I don’t really like singing in front of people and so it was good for me to get out there and do that!”
