The new BHS head girl’s soccer coach, Ryan Cox, is getting ready for spring. He has been an assistant coach for the boys soccer program for 9 years and is a 6th grade math teacher at BJHS.
Q: How do you feel about taking over the girl’s soccer team?
“I’m super excited to be taking over this program. It is an exciting program with a lot of food pieces to build with.”
Q: What is your goal for this year’s season?
“To continue the winning tradition that has already been established while at the same time implementing my own vision and goals for the team.”
Q: What challenges do you think you’ll face?
“The girls team was very senior dominant last year. Finding the right girls to step in and replace them will be an early challenge.”
Q: How long have you been coaching?
“This is my 16th season coaching high school soccer. 16 combined seasons with boys programs at Olathe North and Baldwin. 7 years also spent coaching girls at Olathe North. I’ve also coached various levels of club soccer as well.”
Q: How many girls do you hope will go out for soccer this year?
“I think right now there are 25-30 who have shown interest in playing. Hoping to have that many and maybe a few more.”
Q: What else have you coached?
“I have coached high school girls and Jr. high boys basketball for 10 years.”
Q: What has kept you motivated to coach?
“The growth of my players both on and off the field and court. I have kept in touch with many former players and the experience they gained from playing has helped them now in their adult life.”
Q: What has coaching taught you?
“That when you work hard, are focused and dedicated, and you aren’t afraid to make mistakes, good things happen.”
