The cross country team is going to the State meet this Saturday with the one and only freshman on varsity Madeline Massey. The team has been running hard and it paid off. They won first at Regionals and are hungry for a win at State.
Q:How long have you been running and doing cross country?
“I have been running cross country since 6th grade.”
Q:What made you start running cross country?
“My college brother runs cross country and both my parents were runners.”
Q:How does it feel to be the only freshman on varsity?
“It feels good and I like being the only freshman.”
Q:What were your goals for the season and did you reach them?
“My goal for the season was to PR and to get closer to the team and yes I did reach them.”
Q:What were your biggest struggles during the season?
“When my side was injured it would slow me down during races.”
Q:How do you feel about how you have done with your season this year?
“I feel good and I feel the team has done really good because we got first at Regionals.”
Q:What is your favorite part about cross country?
“Team bonding and when we get Starbucks after long runs.”
Q:What is the team environment like?
“The upperclassmen are really nice and welcoming.”
Q:What is the most important part of cross country in your opinion?
“Running good and understanding that if you move back it will affect everyone and not just you so you have to run your best, even if you are hurting.”
Q:I know you are going to the State meet this Saturday. Are you excited for it?
“Yes I’m really excited for it and we spend the night Friday and run in the morning.”
