Talan Torrez is a multi-talented senior at BHS. He is involved in tennis, basketball, theater, cross country, and choir. Torrez is looking to pursue basketball as his college career, most offers he has gotten are interested in his theatrical skills.
“I am looking to pursue basketball but colleges are more interested in my musicianship.” Torrez said.
Torrez has different reasons for why he wants to pursue each part of his passions.
“I wanted to pursue music and theater because my friends were involved in it and I wanted to try it out for them. I ended up really liking it.”
Torrez is inspired by his dad while playing basketball.
“The biggest inspiration in my basketball career has been my dad. He was a great athlete in high school and I wanted to follow in his footsteps in basketball.”
High School basketball coach Donnie Blanchat respects Talan’s work ethic and love for the game.
“I hope that players have watched and understood the time that Talan has put into his game, to elevate it”, Blanchat said “All of his time and hard work really paid off for him this season in the ways he helped our team as well as records he set and honors he was awarded.”
Torrez has brought many aspects to the team that helped them have a successful season.
“Shooting is the thing Talan will be remembered for. His ability to stretch the defense for us, not only created open shots for all of his teammates, but he was also one of the focal points of other teams and he still had so many great nights and moments.”
Torrez has a positive impact in the classroom and on the court. Choir teacher Rachel Naughtin has lots of compliments on Torrez’ behavior in the classroom.
“Talan is a joy to have in class! He is such a strong musician and does an excellent job leading by example,” Naughtin said. “It has been so fun to have him as a student for all 4 years of high school to see how he has grown as a student, musician, and a performer.”
Torrez has many traits that make him the leader he is.\\
“Talan does such a great job communicating and he is also very self-reflective. He is hard-working, dedicated and passionate, I know those traits will serve him well! I am so glad he is going to baker university so that he can continue to sing and play basketball, and hopefully visit for a few guest performances here and there as well.”
