STAFF OF THE MONTH: Cydney Novotney, social worker
Every month staff members get nominated to be “Staff Of The Month.” September’s winner was Katie Marten, and she nominated Cydney Novotney for October.
Before coming to BHS Novotney was inspired by helping people in the homeless shelter. This is her first year working with high school students. Cydney Novotney wants to connect with students and make BHS a comfortable place.
Is this your first year being a social worker at a high school?
- “Yes, but I did my practical in elementary school.”
What’s your favorite part about working with students?
- “It’s fun to get to know everyone and meet all different kinds of students.”
What activities were you involved with in high school?
- “National Honors Society, Student Council, Dance program and Volleyball.”
What are your hobbies?
- “Walking my dog, reading and cooking while acting like a master chef.”
Why did you want to become a social worker?
- “I originally didn’t know I wanted to be a social worker, but after working in a homeless shelter with teens I decided to go back to school.”
Why did you choose to work at BHS?
- “It’s a smaller school, and because I want to have a relationship with everyone.”
Do you have any pets?
- “Yes, Atticus Finch, and I have had him for six years.”
What weird food combinations do you enjoy?
- “Around the holidays my grandma would get a block of cream cheese and jalapeño strawberry jam and we would eat it with crackers.”
