HUMANS of BHS: Max Gilliland, junior

“Every spring break my family goes down to Reynosa, Mexico, which is a town really over-ran by the drug cartel, it’s a border town so it’s also a place where human trafficking takes place. There’s a little community down there called Children’s Haven International it’s sort of like an orphanage except some of the children that stay there still have parents but they can’t take care of them and sanctioned by the government but the parents can come back and take care of them. We go down there to help the with stuff through a church mission where we preach the word, too. I’ve been taking Spanish to be able to communicate with them a lot better. What we do a lot of is we they have houses where the kids stay and every year we remodel one of them. Last year we re-sided a barn, we broke out some concrete so they could have plumbing for new bathrooms.”
