Do grades matter that much?

It seems like today in school getting good grades means everything.

Instead of learning, high school students take information and memorize it just to forget it after a test. They should be taking information in to learn and remember.

According to Stanford professors on news.stanford.edu, putting so much pressure on grades will lead to cheating. Students decide to cheat just to get the good grade instead of actually learning the information.

Stanford professors also said that the pressure of grades leads to high stress levels. High stress has just become a part of a teen’s life during high school.

These high stress levels can lead to health concerns. Students come home and feel inadequate because they don’t have a 4.0 GPA on their report card or they didn’t get an amazing grade on their last test. They stay up all night just to finish one assignment or study for one test.

According to Mary Alvord, a clinical psychologist, a little stress can motivate students and is okay but too much stress will not accomplish anything.

I believe that students and teachers should put more focus on learning instead of memorizing and achievements.
