The mental health sports events are a tradition at Baldwin High School, and the events can often bring students together with a sense of unity. The events have a near and dear place in BHS’s heart, and they are normally really important events.
“I believe there is a sense of unity,” junior Gracie Hildebrand said. “The mental health sport events can bring us together as students. We can all get together enjoying a sport and bringing awareness to mental health awareness,” junior Gracie Hildebrand said.
“I would say people usually enjoy these events, they like helping people know they matter in this world,” senior Kiley Montney said.
The events that BHS puts on can sometimes really mean something to some people, who have had experiences with the toll mental health can take on someone.
“A lot of students come together to honor those who have lost a life, friend, or family in a moment of silence to respect those who lost their fight to mental health,” senior Canyon Burtis said.
The cause is a very big deal in the wrestling world. The events were started because of wrestling, and that legacy has carried on throughout BHS.
“It feels very special to wrestle in the mental health duels, it’s an opportunity to remember who we have lost to mental health struggles and honor them,” junior Finnley Kellerman said.
“For me, it makes the tournament special,” Hildebrand said. “I have had friends that have struggles and I know we have teammates as well. I feel good about wrestling and bringing awareness to the cause!”
