There is a new freshman math teacher at Baldwin High School and his name is Thomas Broxterman.
“This is my 8th year, and I taught the last 7 years at Royal Valley High School,” Broxterman said.
Royal Valley High School which is around 15 minutes north of Topeka is not a very big school as they have around half the amount of students as BHS.
“Most of my classes last year averaged around 12 students, and this year it’s around 17 or 18,” Broxterman said. “There are more students to learn, every class is bigger.”
Broxterman had a couple careers in mind when deciding what profession he was going to do.
“It was between accounting and teaching,” Broxterman said. “I chose teaching because I enjoy interacting and helping young people grow, and I didn’t want to sit behind a computer and do accounting all day.”
Teaching can be a very rewarding job, and come with a lot of fun moments. Also with any other profession there will always be a favorite part of the job.
“Getting to interact with the students, and seeing them grow and learn as the year goes on,” Broxterman said.
A very important part of going into a higher grade level is understanding the concepts.
“I have definitely learned a lot from him (Broxterman),” freshman Max Strong said. “A lot about graphs, slope, slope-intercept, coordinates, and equations using letters.”
