Thomas Broxterman is a new coach and teacher at BHS, it is his first year as the head cross country coach and he has already done great things and will continue doing great things in the future.
Q: Why did you decide to become the cross country coach at BHS, and have you had any prior coaching experience?
“I ran cross country in high school and college and have a passion for the sport of running.”
Q: What are your strategies for minimizing your team’s injuries and how do you promote their health and wellbeing?
“We try to have a gradual progression in the amount of mileage we run.”
Q: What is your long term vision for the cross country program at BHS?
“I hope to continue the tradition of success and help maximize the potential of our athletes.”
Q: What do you believe is the most important lesson athletes learn after a competition, win or lose?
“I think just focusing on what could be improved for upcoming races.”
Q: How do you celebrate both team and individual successes?
“I think that’s something we can work on. I try to make sure things are posted on school social media.”
Q: How do you keep your athletes motivated throughout the season, especially during challenging times?
“I try to keep them focused on the process of getting better and worrying about the things they can control.”
Q: How do you help freshman athletes transition to the high school level?
“I try to make sure to encourage them and make sure that we aren’t overwhelming them too much with mileage.”
Q: What are some goals you hope to accomplish as a coach throughout your career?
“First off I just like the sport to be an enjoyable experience and push the athletes towards their individual and team goals.”
Q: How do you prepare your athletes before a meet?
“I try to make sure that they visualize how they want the race to go and offer encouragement and fistbumps.”
