Patricia Flory-Evans is the 7th grade language arts teacher at Baldwin Junior High School and runs the WEB program there as well. She grew up here in Baldwin and went on to teach here. Flory-Evans has one of the longest time teaching here in Baldwin out of any other current teacher.
Q: What year did you graduate from Baldwin High School?
“I graduated in 1977.”
Q: How long have you been teaching in Baldwin?
“This is my 23rd year.”
Q: What is your favorite memory teaching in Baldwin?
“I think probably one of my favorite memories is doing the Thanksgiving Gobble Gobble song and the pie in my face at lunch.”
Q: Where else have you taught besides Baldwin?
“I haven’t, I graduated from Baldwin and it’s the only place I’ve ever taught.”
Q: What is the toughest part about teaching?
“When kids don’t realize the benefits of an education. When they don’t have the home life that tells them that this is a way out, or a way up, or a way to do something different, and they just think it’s work, and they don’t want to do it, and they don’t value it.”
Q: What is your favorite part about Baldwin?
“I think in general you know people really do care. Yes, sometimes we think of them as busy bodies, but I think in general people do care about other people and want to do something to help if they can.”
