For Baldwin High School there are many new coaches including volleyball, cross country, girls golf, cheerleading, dance, girls basketball and track.
“I would have to say my favorite part about coaching is seeing my girls be successful,” first-year head volleyball coach Laney Overman said. “I enjoy watching them have fun on the court and or with each other.”
“My coach is Coach Scoby on JV, and I love how he is so fun, always positive, and never really down,” freshman Ava Regalado said. “That’s one of my favorite reasons why he is a great coach. Coach Laney is so sweet and nice and also really positive.”
All the fall sports teams have been practicing and their coaches have been learning the parts of the teams.
“My favorite thing about coaching is getting to know all the girls on the team,” cheer coach Jessica Allen said. “I love watching everyone on the team work hard and it is so fun to watch the excitement when they master new skills or routines.”
“What I like about coach Rylie is how she is younger, how you can relate to her better, and how she understands all of us,” freshman Ashlyn Luthi said.
Our new head and assistant coaches are leaders and inspire their players every day.
“Having the opportunity to work with awesome kids who want to compete and have fun,” cross country coach Thomas Broxterman said. “It’s always amazing to see the improvement from the beginning of the season to the end.”
“He’s a good coach and is doing well for his first year at Baldwin,” freshman Landon Whaley said.
One team that has done well since the scores are great is golf. Coach Eric Toot has six girls on the team this year and the last meet they had Addison Scraper and Jada Sansome got first place at the Ottawa JV meet.
“We have already had a lot of success as a team this year winning three tournament team titles in our 1st four meets,” Toot said. “We have high goals for the rest of our season as we get prepared for league, regionals, and state. Our ultimate goal is to qualify for state as a team. It will be an amazing accomplishment for a 2nd year program who didn’t even have enough players for a full team last season.”
This is just the beginning. We also have new coaches for winter/spring sports.
“I’ve been an assistant basketball coach for three seasons,” girls basketball Coach Kara Roland said. “One year as the freshman coach and two years as the junior varsity coach. My fourth season will be my first year as a head coach. I absolutely believe this team will be successful. We’ve got a great group of girls who are not only talented but also passionate about the game. They’re willing to put in the work, support each other, and stay focused on our goals. With their dedication and the chemistry we have, I have no doubt we’ll see success both on and off the court.”
