Art club students travel to Arkansas
In Arkansas there is a grand art museum called Crystal Bridges. Right here in Arkansas, a huge collection of American fine art and several outdoor exhibits await. A few students and teacher Becky Weaver has traveled to the museum. They visited the Crystal Bridges Art Museum.
Before even getting to Arkansas they had to plan the trip out. However, one senior stood up to the challenge and worked out a way to make it happen.
“I looked at hotels and the area that we’re gonna be in,” senior Greta Davis said, “I went to Mr. Brittingham and explained that I wanted to do this. Afterward we got approval from the board to go to Arkansas.”
Weaver had to raise money for the trip, as well.
“We had a fundraiser over Christmas and we used some of the funds from that. We then had students pay for a portion of the trip,” Weaver said.
The art museum is known for its modern American art and interactive art pieces.
“It’s mostly modern American art, in the museum their collection changes a lot. So you are never seeing the same piece of art again,” Weaver said,” They have a lot of outdoor sculptures. As well as, paintings, drawings and photography.”
A few artworks were interactive with the patrons.
“They had an excellent exhibit called the Listening Forest. Is an outdoor interactive exhibit, so you could walk through the trails in the forest,” Weaver said.
With the interactive project named the Listening Forest, allows for people’s heart beats to create the art piece.
“You could walk up and the artwork would start to read your palm. From the palm it could take your heartbeat and it would light up to the lights,” Weaver said.
Many students walk away from this trip with amazing opportunities and memories.
“It was one of the best high school experiences I have ever had and I loved every second of it,” Marley McCune said. “We were able to experience some amazing art and new opportunities. All of us even became closer by the end of the trip.”
“It was amazing. It was one of my favorite trips I’ve been to with the school,” Davis said.
