New exchange students arrive at BHS

Hugo Santo from Brazil has joined BHS for this school year.

At BHS in 2022-23 there are three new foreign students.

 Junior Mats Rognstad from Norway.

“Baldwin is different from Norway, I live right outside of the capital, so I’ve moved from 700,000 people to 5,000 people,” Rognstad said.

Rognstad got involved at BHS right away.

“I’m playing soccer this year,” he said. “In Norway we don’t get to pick our classes and here I pick all my classes. Here, the grading system sucks. My favorite class is Spanish because we don’t have that there.”

Junior Perla Baeckberg is from Sweden.

“I’m really loving Baldwin. I think it’s nice, small town and everyone is really nice to me,” she said.

She also has been involved in activities at BHS.

“Right now, I’m trying out for volleyball but I’m going to play soccer too this spring,” She said. “The classes are shorter, my classes in Sweden are three hours long and we only have two a day.”

She is getting used to the new scheduling for school here.

“We also have different schedules every day and here it is the same schedule every day,” Baeckberg said. “I’m in a few clubs, I’m in Stand Up for Cancer. My favorite class is photography, I think it’s pretty interesting.”

Junior Hugo Santo is from Brazil.

“Baldwin is very nice, it’s very different but I think the worst thing is living far from home. I’m doing football, wrestling, and baseball and maybe track,” Santo said.

BHS is very decorative with flags from all over the world, that has caught Santo’s attention. We have lots of clubs and Santo is joining one and maybe more.

“Honestly school here is quite the same,” he said. “We don’t have so many flags there. I’m also in FBLA.”
