Exchange student taking on BHS

Jorge Sotomayor is a foreign exchange student this year at Baldwin High School from Spain.

Sotomayor is really enjoying Baldwin and he likes that it is a small town where everyone knows each other.

“I really like Baldwin so far. I like Baldwin because it is a small town and everyone knows everyone,” Sotomayor said.

Sotomayor plays sports back home and he played football for BHS this year. He is not positive if he will play any other sports for BHS.

“I played rugby and soccer back home and I just finished my football season at Baldwin,” Sotomayor said.

Sotomayor shared a couple of his favorite American foods.

“My favorite American food would be either burgers or chilli,” Sotomayor said.

Sotomayor is becoming closer with his host family and enjoying his time with them.

“I am close with my host parents and I do many things with them,” Sotomayor said.

Teachers have enjoyed Sotomayor at BHS and they are happy for him to attend school here.

“Having Jorge in class is a great cultural experience for us all. I think he enjoys it, and we do, too. He is a lot of fun to be around, and I am glad he is at BHS,” Journalism teacher Kit Harris said.

Students and classmates have enjoyed Sotomayor at BHS and they have learned many new things about him and his country.

“Jorge is a great kid,” classmate Kivryen Heck said. “It’s cool to have a classmate from another country. He talks about his culture there, and how they do certain things differently. I have learned many things from him. He has taught me a few words in Spanish, they don’t have trucks in their country, and they can’t start learning how to drive until they are 18. While in our country we can start learning at the age 14.”
