BULLDOG SPOTLIGHT: Everyone is snaring at Henry Parks

Henry Parks poses for his picture. Parks is a sophomore band player.

Sophomore Henry Parks is a percussionist who plays for the Baldwin High school Band. He is one of the few people who play the snare drum along with Belle Olsen. He also plays the timpani or whatever the band needs him to play.

“I’ve been playing music many years before I joined band,” Parks said. “I’ve been playing guitar for three years and drums about a year and a half ago.”

“The band has a total of seven drummers who play,” Parks said. “The only person who plays drums similar to me is Belle.”

Parks has many friends in band who play other instruments and participate in marches and other band activities.

“He started this year and he’s pretty good for only being in band for one year,”  Sophomore Rebecca fritzsche said.

She plays the bass drum which helps keep the beat and also increases or decreases the speed at which they play.

While being known in the band as a percussionist, Parks also has been playing guitar for nearly three years.

“My friend got a guitar and I saw him playing it and I thought it was really cool,” Parks said. “I play a lot of modern indie rock songs in my free time, it just my favorite kind of music it feels relatable and it’s the kind of music I like making.”

Both the drums and guitar have affected the life of Parks and many other musicians. He hopes to go on and continue playing as his hobby or to have fun when ever he can.

“I recommend people try playing an instrument,” Parks said. “They can help your mood or like help just give you something to do if you’re bored or something.”
