Perbeck reflects on first year as head principal
In 2006, Allen Poplin’s position as principal of Baldwin High School was taken over by Shaun Moseman when Poplin was ready to retire. In 2018 a similar situation occurred with Principal Rob McKim and Vice Principal Frank Perbeck. When McKim made the decision to leave his spot, Perbeck was there to fill in. Perbeck now happens to be the third principal since 2006.
“Switching positions my responsibilities have changed dealing with more of the academic side of the school,” Perbeck said. “We offer so many options here like Washburn Tech, Neosho County, Johnson County, Kids that want to go into CNA school, cosmetology school and kids that are even taking a virtual classes through the school.”
Every school has their up and downs and when situations get rough Perbeck is the end of the road for solving the problem most the time.
“The thing that is most difficult to me is that the buck stops here,”Perbeck said, “and ultimately everything that our school represents is a reflection of the leadership in this building.”
Perbeck’s leadership seems to be having a positive impact on both students and staff.
“As an administrative team, I think Perbeck and Brittingham are doing a good job coming together and figuring out how to best lead BHS,”culinary teacher Paul Musselman said “Perbeck comes across as a big and scary guy, but when students get to know him in a way other than being disciplined, he is pretty nice and easy to talk to.”
Students express how having Perbeck as the school’s new administrator, it feels like they have someone to talk to and that he understands.
“I feel like he is good at interacting with kids,” sophomore Brooklyn Chase said, “so if kids are upset or having a problem they can easily talk to him because he is friendly and social.”
“Mr. Perbeck is a good person to have as a principal because he has a strong personality traits making him a great leader to trust and talk to,” sophomore Shane Doty said.
