Winter Wishes being granted at BHS
From candy bars to friends, to singing christmas carols to a teacher, winter wishes have been a big part of BHS. This tradition has been going on for years run by StuCo representatives granting student wishes.
“I think Christmas is about giving and making others happy,” senior Sydney Thurlow said. “When BHS grants a winter wish it makes people feel special and almost cared for. I love receiving a winter wish because the school is just trying to make their students happy and I’m happy when I get one.”
Many students receive winter wishes, and some do not, the ones that have received gifts in previous years have a chance of not getting their wish this year so as others that have not received their wish at all have a chance of getting their wish.
“I think they’re really cool and fun to do around Christmas,” junior Ava Davis said. “I got one freshman year that was a Snickers bar from one of my friends.”
The wish does not have to be for yourself, it can be for a friend or teacher.
“I enjoy winter wishes because this school is full of people who are willing to give something or do something to make other people’s day so much better,” senior Benton Flory said. “It puts everyone in a happy mood and it makes me so happy to see that we have so many people who care about the people in the school.”
StuCo likes to do this for students along with the Data Match Survey during Valentine’s Day to match students up with others if the same interest.
“I got a winter wish last year as a freshman,” sophomore Gracelyn Hinderliter said. “It was like a little thing that makes your day like someone smiling or saying hello to you in the hallway, and it just kind of made my day just a little bit better.”
All the wishes are collected and filed alphabetically and split by grades. There is a spreadsheet that has who has and who hasn’t received a wish.
“I have never gotten a winter wish,” junior Lane Anderson said. “This year I wished for Ms. Marten to follow me on Twitter, last year was for a Dr. Pepper, neither have been done.”
