Stand Up To Cancer plans annual Pink Out
Raising over $1,000 to help fight against a world disease, Baldwin High School students are the main force behind it.
One of the many clubs at BHSl is Stand Up to Cancer. Stand Up to Cancer is a club that gives back to the country and people affected by cancer. There are over 50 kids in the club ranging from freshman to seniors. All pitching in to help give back to the people that have lost so much.
“I think every kid should get involved in Stand up to Cancer,” Club sponsor Debbie Baldwin said. “Very few people I know have not been affected by cancer.”
Many long hours go into pink out, with help from club officers, sponsor of the club and volleyball moms. This year the pink out volleyball game is on Oct. 9th, with their annual silent auction and bake sale.
“Pink out is always so much fun for all of us,” President of Stand up to Cancer Rian Gere said. “Receiving that final number of the money we raised and now get to donate is such a wonderful moment for me.”
The club raised over one thousand dollars last year. They gave around one thousand dollars to Lawrence Memorial Oncology department and made sunshine baskets for people at BHS battling cancer.
“I think it’s great that local kids are trying to help their community and the people they love,”Lawrence memorial oncology department nurse Stephanie Norris said. “The money helps patients in any way possible from helping with transportation to helping with paying for medications.”
Over one million people each year in the United States get diagnosed with cancer. Four percent of those people are eighteen and younger, according to American Cancer Society.
