Baldwin High School’s Future Business Leaders of America club went to Dallas last month for the National Fall Leadership Conference. They rode down on a charter bus with other FBLA groups from Kansas on Nov. 17. They stopped at the Oklahoma City bombing site on the way down and had the opportunities to walk around and learn about that historic event that claimed 168 lives before continuing on with their journey to the conference.
When they finally got there they stayed at the Texas Gaylord Resort. They also had the opportunity tour Dallas Cowboys stadium. They attended leadership workshops during the day and danced the night away.
“I always enjoy listening to motivational speakers, but there is nothing more fun than getting to know your own classmates better,” senior Madeline McCrary said.
There were many learning opportunities at the conference.
“I learned a lot but the thing I found most rewarding was techniques to lower my stress. Being involved is wonderful, but it can get overwhelming,” McCrary said.
Kansas was recognized as having the most FBLA members and advisors in attendance against all the other states. The also were recognized for placing second in the Super Sweeps Membership Recruitment program.
“The state of Kansas received the recognition….it was great as we beat a lot of larger states,” sponsor Patty Lenning said.
Lenning thought the trip went as planned,
“The trip went well….loved the tour of Cowboy stadium. I attended an adviser workshop all day since I’m new, so unfortunately, didn’t get to go to workshops this year. The opening speaker was very motivating,” Lenning said.
