National Honor Society usually does three blood drives a year but because of a recent rise in the need for blood transfusions they will be doing extra blood drives this year.
“BHS has doubled the number of drives we host in the past year. We made he change because we were asked to offer additional help. It is a service to the Blood Center, community and to the untold recipients who will benefit because we chose to make a difference.”
The blood drive will be taking place on Monday, Jan. 21 in the BHS cafeteria.
The Community Blood Center has some restrictions that donors must follow. A donor must be at least 16 years old, weigh a minimum of 115 pounds and must wait eight weeks between each blood donation. Donors must provide a photo ID when registering to be a blood donor and provide proof of age at a high school blood drive.
The Community Blood Center has more guidelines regarding donors who are on prescription drugs, who were recently sick or recently had surgery. The Community Blood Center website is www.savealife.org, the guidelines can be found on this website.
