Art students see art in new, real perspective

With a visit to Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, BHS art students had the chance to see world-class art in a new, fresh light.

“We wanted to explore art and look at it for real, not little two inch pictures,” art instructor Christy Carlisle said. “We wanted to see the real thing.”

Nelson-Atkins is located in Kansas City, MO near the Plaza. The museum is especially known for its Neoclassical architecture and Asian art. The museum has recently been renovated and is still growing.

“It was good to see progress from then to now,” senior Ashley Pederson.

The objective of the trip helped students see a large range of art.

“We went on a art seeking scavenger hunt,” Carlisle said.

Although Nelson-Atkins features in Neoclassical and Asian art, art students were there to look at all art.

“They looked for Impressionism art, Modern art, Egyptian art,” Carlisle said.

Carlisle said that the gallery showed historic change too.

“They saw how art changed over time,” Carlisle said.
