The Baldwin girls tennis program has proved their success again by qualifying senior Kaitlin Jorgensen and the doubles team of senior Cate Gwin and sophomore Elley McDaniels to the 4A State Tournament in Emporia.
The team competed in Regional play this past weekend in Topeka.
“I’m very proud of our team for competing well,” athletics director Gary Stevanus said. “Selfishly, with us being the host for the 4A state tournament, it will be nice to see some of our kids competing.”
Jorgensen finished in fifth in singles play while Gwin and McDaniels finished sixth in doubles.
“I’m honored to be representing Baldwin High School,” McDaniels said, “I’m excited for the tournament.”
McDaniels was happy with the result, and thought that her and Gwin’s effort was a big part of the pairs result.
“I think we played really hard,” McDaniels said. “We definitely did our best.”
The 4A State Tournament will begin on Friday, Oct. 12, and end on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Emporia High School. Baldwin High School is the official host of the event, as former BHS teacher and coach Ginny Honomichl is the tournament director.
