The City of Baldwin had an experience like never before. The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus was in town for one night only, on Aug 30.
The circus was a back to school fundraiser.
The circus contacted the Chamber of Commerce and asked if they could come and if someone would sponsor them,” CSO President Michelle Patterson said. “Jill from the Chamber of Commerce decided to from the initial fee for them to come and then would give proceeds to the Baldwin Elementary School Community Service Organization.”
The money given to the CSO was around $1,200.
“As for who will benefit from the profit, it will be the elementary students and teachers of Baldwin,” Patterson said. “The money will help for funding of field trips, technology for the classrooms, the annual carnival, science night, teacher grants, assemblies and the yearly family night picnic.”
Some of the acts were performing camels, Perez high wire trio, Miss Carolyn’s dog and pony revue, clowns and more.
Some of the students of BHS also visited the circus.
“It was a really fun time,” senior Jackie Dalton-Helms said. “One of my favorite acts was watching the lions perform.”
