BHS art students will put selected works on display this Friday at the Lumberyard Arts Center. Artwork was chosen from 1,000 pieces that the art students have made over the past school year.
Sophomore Brenna Johnson and junior Sam Huntington are two students who will have their work on display.
“I have an abstract painting on display,” Johnson said. “I’m really excited that it was chosen to represent the school. I’ve never thought of myself as much of an artist so it was cool to be selected.”
“My artwork is a colored pencil still-life drawing of assorted toys and other objects that we were assigned to associate ourselves with,” Huntington said. “It was meant to be a kind of ‘about me’ project, but I’m pretty pleased with how it came out.”
BHS art teacher Christy Carlisle selected the artwork for the show.
“It was a hard process,” Carlisle said. “We went with composition guidelines. was it visually balanced? We look for artists who show growth in their personal artwork.”
The students who are involved in the display are very excited for the opening.
“I’d have to say that I’m most excited to see the creativity of our school in the gallery and fashion show,” Johnson said.
“It’s always nice to look at others’ accomplishments along with my own.” Huntington said. “I like the environment of these kind of events.”
Carlisle agrees that this display is a good thing for the students to be a part of.
“They Benefit by exposition to the public, interaction with the public, and learning how to present,” Carlisle said.
The art display at the Lumberyard Arts Center will be held in conjunction with the first annual Art Club Fashion Show from 6 to 8 p.m on February 17th at the Lumberyard Arts Center.
