Several students will be venturing to Baldwin High School, 36 of those students being from Baldwin High, to take the college admissions test, the ACT.
Many students have already taken the ACT, some of them for the first time in seventh grade.
“I took the ACT in seventh grade,” junior Sammie Weiss said. “It was good practice for taking the ACT in high school.”
The average ACT score for BHS last year was 22.8 points out of 36, while the state averaged a 22.
“I have started studying with a ACT and SAT prep website,” junior Austin Kraus said.
Others have started studying, also.
“I have studied a bit,” Weiss said. “I have some flash cards that I try to look at every day. I also signed up for a program that sends you a daily question that has to do with questions on the ACT or SAT.”
It is important to take the ACT.
“Having a good score on the ACT shows that you are ready for college and that you have the knowledge and skill for college,” councilor Melody Hoffsommer said. “A lot of scholarships are based on your ACT score.”
For some, this is their second time taking the test.
“I took the ACT last spring,” senior Alison Berg said.
Senior Jake Mindez is taking this test more seriously than last spring.
“I’m taking this next test more seriously,” Mindez said. “I hope to improve my score.”
Others are retaking the test for other reasons.
“I’m trying to get a better score for scholarships,” Berg said.
