Parks enjoys being an English student for a semester abroad
Although it was just for a semester, senior Hannah Parks made many memories, and made many new friends at her high school in England last year.
“We did not have bells so I ended up sleeping through some of my class,” Parks said. “Some days I only had two classes.”
Parks had classes that were specific to her liking such as musical theatre classes. She made wonderful connections with the people that shared the same interests as her.
“School in Baldwin and school in England have the same social dynamics,” Parks said. “The bonds I made with the teachers were also about the same.”
Even though the senior made connections with teachers, she also made a couple of sweet friendships.
“Every Tuesday morning, my bus driver would play the song ‘How do You Like Your Eggs In The Morning’,” Parks said. “It would be cold and rainy, but that song made my day every time I heard it.”
The senior enjoyed the friendships and connections she made but, England really stood out in one way.
“I definitely learned more in one semester in England than I have in Baldwin,” Parks said. “I thought it was harder, and it’s difficult not to learn more when you’re in another country.”
England may sound great but Parks believes that the United States is still home.
“I would absolutely stay in the United States because I feel more at home,” Parks said. “England has a very hostile environment.”
England was a great experience, but Parks will always call the town of Baldwin City, Kansas, home.
