When taking tests or quizzes it can get very stressful. Students want to get good grades but is cramming all the information at the last minute or studying better?
Some students will cram more information quickly because of jobs, family, or sports that take up a lot of time. While cramming can be useful for short-term memory for quizzes. While rereading material before a test can help you score a better test score it may not help you with the final.
Most classes will have a different lesson everyday. When you study long-term you will gain knowledge as the class progresses. According to medcerts.com, when you study long-term it is more effective than cramming information all in one night. Also when you study long-term the night before the test you will get more sleep to be more alert during the test.
While pulling an all-nighter for short-term studying may seem like a good idea in the end it will just make you more tired for the test. Which usually during most tests you will want to be alert if there may also be a time limit.
While short-term studying may be good for a unit-quiz it usually is not good for a final. This is why long-term studying will be the better choice.
To help with studying it is proven that changing study locations will improve with memory retention. Also periodically look over your notes during your unit to keep a fresh memory of the material.
So, cramming can be helpful in certain circumstances; it isn’t the best method to retain information. While long-term studying helps you retain more information, but any type of studying is better than none.
