Junior Finnley Kellerman is taking over some of the girls’ wrestling team responsibilities this year. She is really passionate about wrestling and the things that go with it, and it takes a lot of leadership to run a team.
Q: Why do you love wrestling so much?
A: “I feel like the team dynamic is just really positive, it’s a really tight-knit group of girls, and when you are all girl wrestlers you’re all kind of in the same club, so it forms a really strong bond between teammates.”
Q: Are you excited for the upcoming season?
A: “I’m very excited. I’m excited to start working towards building off of the momentum I built last year, placing 6th (at state) and I’m hoping to come back even stronger.”
Q: How long have you been wrestling?
A: “I’ve been wrestling for one year, I started my sophomore year and have been doing it ever since.”
Q: What new responsibilities do you have since taking on a leadership role for wrestling team?
A: “I’m coming into the role of being an upperclassman leader and I just want to help the underclassmen and really bring them into the program. It’s a role that now that I’m a junior I’m trying to take on and help keep building the program.”
Q: What is your favorite part about wrestling?
A: “I love the relationship its builds with your teammates. There’s nothing better than when you see somebody else on your team win, and they get so excited and you get to hype them up and share their excitement with them.”
Q: Are you planning to wrestle when you graduate?
A: “I’m hoping to wrestle in college so I’m looking for schools right now that offer that.”
Q: What made you want to take over some of the wrestling team?
A: “When I was an underclassman, the seniors and juniors had a really positive effect on me and really pushed me to do my best and work my hardest. They got a lot of excitement going for the program, and I want to make sure that continues.”
Q: Do you enjoy the leadership that comes with this new responsibility?
A: “I do, I enjoy trying to help build up the program and invite more people to do the sport that I love.”
Q: Who introduced you to wrestling?
A: “My dad wrestled when he was in high school, and my brothers wrestled in middle school. It was a thing where I was kind of on the edge, like ‘should I do it, should I not,’ and when Kit Harris was the coach, he gave me the final push I needed to do it, so I tried it out and have loved it ever since.”
