Humans of BHS: Jeff Cullins
“I started playing street hockey when I was about 10 years old. Growing up where I did, basketball was the big thing. My neighbors broke our hoop dunking on it and our parents decided not to replace it, so we switched to hockey. I have played for the Blue Line Shots, the Hellfish, and the Bar Down Ghost Pirates. My favorite part of hockey is the brotherhood, the physical challenge, and the occasional fisticuffs. I have been playing for about 10 years total. The hardest part is learning to skate, stickhandle, and keep your head up so you don’t get smashed while doing the first two. If you can do that then you can start working on passing and shooting. The easiest part is probably putting on the gear. Although as a thicker older gentleman, putting on skates is surprisingly challenging due to my feet being so far away from my hands. I plan to keep playing until my back or other injuries prevent me.”
