ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Cole Blake, U.S. Marine

BHS alumnus Cole Blake has continued his journey of life and is currently an active member of the U.S. Marine Corps. Cole graduated from BHS two years ago in 2017.

Nothing else has really interested Blake like being a Marine has. Blake has always known that being a Marine is what he wanted to do with his life after high school.

I’ve wanted to be a Marine for as long as I can remember and I always knew it was what I wanted to do after high school,” Blake said. “I didn’t really have any other career choices in mind because nothing has really interested me like being in the infantry.”

Blake knew what he was looking for and his father sparked his desire to become a Marine.

I’d say my desire to be a Marine stemmed from my dad who joined right after 9/11 and the other branches didn’t mean anything to me as far as what I wanted to and the brotherhood I was looking for,” Blake said.

Blake has given advice for those who are looking to be a Marine Corps.

“Advice for people and especially high school students thinking about the military would be to make sure it’s what you really want to be a part of because there really is no easy way through it every day. It is a challenge and a huge test of what your body and mind can put up with at least as far as the Marine Corps goes,” Blake said.

A plan after the Marine Corps for Blake is currently not all the way planned out. Blake has a few ideas for life after the military that he mentioned.

“My long term goals are really unclear at this point. I’ve thought about becoming a teacher or maybe something to do with psychiatric work,” Blake said.

BHS coach Kit Harris coached Blake in wrestling and he had very positive things to say about Blake and his hard work he put in here at BHS.

“It was awesome to be able to coach Cole in wrestling over the years, he was always a very hard worker and tough kid,” Harris said. He competed hard and took winning seriously.

Harris also has positive thoughts on Blake and where he is going with his future.

“He fit everything you would think as a Marine. I am sure he will be a great Marine in serving our country, he is a great all-around kid. Definitely a proud BHS graduate,” Harris said.
