Residents await eagerly for Maple Leaf Festival
The Maple Leaf Festival is coming up. From October 15-16, the festival runs through downtown Baldwin City.
The schedule this year starts with a Kiddie Parade on Saturday, October 15, at 10:45 a.m. and is followed by the Parade at 11 a.m. where the Baldwin High School and Baldwin Junior High School bands will be playing.
“I love it when the band plays at Maple Leaf,” said sophomore, Sydney Thurlow “we really have to rally together to make the parade happen.”
There will be over twenty food booths providing several different foods, such as funnel cakes, BBQ, turkey legs, homemade pies, hamburgers, and hotdogs.
Arts and crafts booths are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. They will be located downtown through Eighth Street.
“I like the parade and the art booths,” said sophomore Riley Fletcher.
“I really love walking around with all of my friends, looking at stuff, and just hanging out,” said Thurlow.
“I like the food and the vendors and seeing all of the shops,” said sophomore Paige Ellis.
In addition to the art booths, there will also be a quilt show from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The show will be located at the Baldwin Intermediate Center.
“Personally, I wish they would change the parade route because doing the same route has gotten a little boring,” Thurlow said when asked if there is anything she would like to change this year.
Many people, inside and outside of Baldwin, are looking forward to the loved festival in hopes it will be as good as the previous years.
