TEACHER of the MONTH: Martin shares passion for history
History teacher Bob Martin has recently received the award for February’s teacher of the month. He was selected because he coaches girls basketball and teaches four classes and balances it all.
How did you feel when you found out you had won?
Very pleasantly surprised.
How long have you been teaching?
This is my 40th year of teaching.
Why did you decide to become a teacher?
I come from a teaching background. My parents were teachers and I loved sports and wanted to get into coaching and if it hasn’t been for sports I probably wouldn’t have gotten into teaching, but I do enjoy it very much.
What do you enjoy most about teaching?
First of all I really like History so that’s a big part of it. I like being involved with the students and the people I’m working with. It’s a good environment and I really like History and sharing it with people. Especially young people.
If you could give your students one piece of advice what would it be?
Stay with it. Figure out what you want to do with things and have faith in yourself and stay with it. Most often that’s the key to success. Find what you like and don’t give up on it.
